On the way from Nationals to the Gorge, WindSurfing editor Josh Sampiero and new-found buddy Richard White decided to go windsurfing in Yellowstone National Park. Why? Why not?!

There are as many reasons to windsurf on Yellowstone Lake as there are windsurfers. The "Why Not?" part that kept me from doing it in 2005 is "it's not allowed." Boating anywhere within the Park requires a permit and they will not issue a permit for windsurfers. The rangers gave three reasons: the water in Yellowstone Lake is always extremely cold due, sudden storms come up over the mountains too quickly for safety, and they try to keep the Park as much as pristine as possible. All of those reason are also why no there are no jetskis or waterskiers. Aren't you glad there wasn't a ranger waiting on the shore when you got back?

Wow! Looks amazing! I never thought it could be possible to sail at Yellowstone. I guess I'll give that one a try next time in Yellowstone. ;)
