    The 2007 East Coast Junior Windsurfing Championships, a U.S. Sailing Junior Olympic Event, was held July 6 & 7 at Vineyard Haven Yacht Club (MA).  The event was also part of the Vineyard Cup, benefiting Sail Martha's Vineyard.   
 Sailors under age 19 came from as far away as Jacksonville, Florida, Lake Bluff, Illinois, and Vannes, France.    Beautiful conditions ranged from 5 to 15 knots with gusts to 20knts.

    Solvig Sayre (15) was crowned East Coast Junior Champion, mastering her home Vineyard Haven waters in the Gold Fleet.   Ryan Kaszynski (17) from Atlanta Georgia placed second, and Rasmus Sayre, aged 9, was third place overall and first in the Under 15 Division.  Nick Watts from Sudbury, MA placed first in the Silver Fleet.  Complete results can be found at http://www.vineyardcup.com/2007winsurfresults.shtml

     The Vineyard Cup Windsurfing Long Distance Race was over 15 miles and open to all ages.  The course started off East Chop, beat into Vineyard Haven Harbor to round Red Nun #6,  then rounded East Chop to starboard, made the turning mark along State Beach at Edgartown, and returned to finish at Nun #6.  The waters became very confused off East Chop and featured gusts into the mid twenties at the end of the race.  Seven of eleven competitors completed the course, and in remarkable fashion, junior sailors Solvig Sayre and Ryan Kaszynski gutted it out to finish in over 2 ½ hours.
