The Maui Speed Challenge came to a close on Sunday, Oct, 2, at Kite Beach, Maui. Although event leader Anders Bringdal had a cold and was unable to compete in the final race his steady showing in the previous races was sufficient to secure him the overall title. Other titles went to organizer Marc Lefebvre, who led the Men's division, Paulina Pease in the Women's, and Skyler Haywood in the Junior division.
Overall, the series was a great success, as competitors young and old enjoyed the simple format of GPS speed trials. Next year, the Maui Speed Challenge looks to expand with even more participants. There is also rumor of a similar speed challenge possibly happening stateside — check www.windsurfingmag.com for updates. For full event results, go to www.mauispeed.com.
