Navman Maui Speed Challenge Series

Navman Maui Speed Challenge Series

 July 17, July 24, Aug. 7, Aug. 21, Sept. 11, Sept. 25

WHERE: Downwind of Kite Beach at Kanaha Beach Park, Kahului, Maui, HI

With the resurging interest in Speed Sailing, thanks to windsurfers once again holding the top spot in the world records, the Maui Windsurfing Association has begun to organize the Maui Speed Challenge Series which will run opposite to the Maui Slalom Series, and will be an opportunity for all sailors to see how fast they can go and for serious racers and pros to dial in their equipment through out the summer. This summer series is being supported by windsurfing luminaries such as Anders Bringdal, Thierry Bielak, Freddy Haywood, Martin van Meurs, and Eric Beal. We are also hoping to attract current world record holder Finian Maynard to the event while he is on break during the summer, as well as top PWA pros who also compete in the summer slalom series.

With the advent of GPS technology, speed events are getting easier to organize and run, now that expensive and delicate speed check instrumentation is no longer needed. Each sailor will race on the downwind course with a personal water proof M300 GPS unit from Navman(www.sport-tool.com), and after each heat they will come into the beach and their top speeds will be recorded. At the end of the day we will have overall speed winners for each category which includes:

OPEN CLASS, and MEN

WOMEN, JUNIORS, and YOUTHs.
