Rocky Mountain Windsurfing Association

Racing Series  and King/Queen of the Lake

The 5rd annual RMWA Racing Series will be beginning in May, and at this point we still need many more donations to help make this the biggest and best series ever. Last year we had over forty-five participants and this year already promises to be larger than ever.  Due to the RMWA being landlocked, most people don't think that our region deserves much outside attention but we want to change this image.  Our region is perfect for windsurf racing and our club is strong with over 150 members already signed up so far this season. There is a large windsurf market in this area, and I imagine that manufacturers would only benefit from getting their name out more now due to a huge influx of people turning over their older gear and replacing it with the wider style boards and sails.

The RMWA Racing Series will have a total of 10 different racing events, and multiple races will be ran at every event.  Different classes will be offered at the events, which will challenge the competitive windsurfer, but classes also designed to encourage the beginner windsurf racer  in a friendly non-intimidating environment.   In addition, to help assist the growth of windsurf racing, free instructional classes will be held before races where sailors can learn about technique, rules and equipment.  There will also be a limited amount of gear at the events for people to borrow, which allows sailors to race even if they do not have their own equipment, and gives them a chance to see how well the new equipment works.

This year we will also have the 1st annual King/Queen of the Lake freestyle event and the interest in this event by windsurfers from Colorado and other near by states has already been huge.

RMWA also puts a lot of focus into introducing windsurfing to youth and the general public. We offer several free “Kids Windsurfing Camps” to kid groups like boy/girl scouts, school clubs, troubled kids (I work with about 65 at-risk youth) and we also host a “Learn to Windsurf” event for the general public.

If you would like to help support the growth of windsurfing and would like to donate items to the RMWA, please send them to the address below.  We are hoping for donations that can be used for prizes for the races and other events, and/or new or used equipment that new racers can demo at the races and which will also be used in our “Learn to Windsurf” and “Kids Windsurfing Camp” events.  All companies that donate items will be listed and thanked in several of the RMWA

Newsletters, and companies that donate more expensive items will be recognized further.  Check us out on the web at WWW.RMWA.ORG
