Highland Lakes Winsurfing hosts special event for kids.

 On Fri, 4 Oct 2002

The Highland Lakes Windsurfing Fleet introduced 26 kids to

windsurfing and hooked up 9 kids with their own equipment this
past

Summer. Volunteers at our free Junior Windsurfing Clinic
provided

equipment and lessons for the first 3 Wednesdays for ages 10
and

older.

We broke out our complete inventory of 6 Junior Rigs, as well as
5

Ezzy wave sails for the teenagers. HiFly Primos and Mistral One
Designs

And Superlights were the boards of choice. Assorted flags and
wind socks

were seen by all and relied on often. All participants
received

complimentary New England Windsurfing Journals, WindSurfing
magazines,

American Windsurfer magazines, DaKine decals, Gaastra posters,
as well

As a few videotapes and such.

The final 5 weeks were for kids with their own equipment
only.

This reduced the student / teacher ratio immensely, and is just
what

We needed. For the students who made the commitment, we were

Intermittently able to provide 1 on 1 instruction on the
water.

To further entice others, and to really nurture the kids who

Make the commitment, for 2003, we will schedule 1 Learn to
Windsurf Day,

And an 8 week Junior Windsurfing Clinic for kids with their own
equipment

only. We will open up more weeks for beginners in 2004.

The Highland Lakes Windsurfing Fleet has been the recipient
of

past U S Windsurfing Junior Grants, which enabled us to
provide

appropriate equipment for teaching juniors in our community. We
have

also received support from the industry through contributions
from:

Aerotech / Epic Gear, DaKine, Windance / Ezzy Sails, The House,
New

England Windsurfing Journal, WindSurfing, American
Windsurfer,

Specialty Sports, Extreme Windsurfing, U S Windsurfing, and from
the Highland

Lakes Country Club and Community Association.

Special thanks to our volunteers, including Tom & Terry

Latham, Dr. Dick & Bette Witt, Chip Ehrhardt, Bob Williams,
Andy Weingram, Liz Roberts, and juniors Kevin Buruchian, Kevin
& Justin Murphy, and Reed Ulmer.

Thank you all for your continued support in our effort
to

Promote windsurfing in the Highland Lakes, N.J., community.
