How To Do An Upwind 360

In this windsurfing how to, learn how do a upwind 360, a freestyle windsurfing trick to practice in both planing and non-planing conditions. The upwind 360 is one of the most basic freestyle moves around, but it teaches sail handling for more advanced moves like the flaka.

Carve upwind

Initiate by oversheeting and carving hard into the wind, with most of your weight in the rig and on your front foot, bringing the nose through dead upwind.

Backwind the sail

Guide the rig in front of you with your mast hand to initiate the backwind. Keep your knees bent, back straight and back hand back to maintain control over the rig.

Pass through dead upwind

Look over your leading shoulder, keeping your clew arm in toward your body. Start to transition your weight toward your back foot to leverage against the power in the rig.

Power up and sail away

Be ready for a pull from the rig as it powers back up; keeping your back hand back is key. Sail away, and next time try it staying in the foot straps!
