How To Do A Sail 360

In this windsurfing how to, learn how to a sail 360, a freestyle windsurfing trick that can be done in planing and nonplaning conditions. Although no longer really considered a trick in its own right, the sail 360 is fundamental for learning how to duck the sail for duck jibes and other more complicated freestyle moves.


Grab the clew

Sailing just off the wind, reach back with your back hand, let go with your front hand and grab the clew.

Make the throw

Let go with your original back hand and throw your new clew hand over your shoulder. Reach with your original back hand for the boom in front of the harness lines.

Release and flip

From here it’s the same as a step jibe: Slide your mast hand to the mast and release your clew hand.

Power up and sail away

Keep looking forward, not at the rig; let the sail flip, grab the new side of the boom and sail away.
