How To Duck Jibe

In this windsurfing how to, find out how to duck jibe like Robby Naish in the RIP video. One of the most fun flat-water moves, the duck jibe, done correctly, can often be easier than a regular jibe — and can help keep you planing in lighter winds.

Reach back and grab

Initiate as a normal jibe. Look back at the clew, and at dead downwind let go with your front hand and grab the clew. Your head and torso should not move from here on out.

Prepare to toss

Let go with your original back hand and let it extend out in front of you. Don’t move your head and torso!

Make the throw

Pull the clew back and throw it over your shoulder. The more aggressive, the faster the sail returns. Reach for the boom with your new front hand.

Grab the boom

Lightly grab the boom but do not sheet in. Lightly feather the boom through your hands until they are on the boom in a normal sailing position.

Power up, sail away

Switch your feet, and as the board finishes the turn, begin to sheet the rig back in and sail away. The rig moves around you, not the other way around!

If you don't turn your head to look at the clew when you grab it, you stay even steadier, and IMHO increase the chances of planing through on a smooth carve. Just look inside the turn when you initiate the jibe and your head will be in the right spot when the rig comes back up.

Though I adore the blog, I need to disagree on this one. Just investigate online, look into the media reports sections, and perhaps you will see exactly what I am talking about. Thanks a lot!
