Once you’ve learned the basics of windsurfing, a forward rail ride is an impressive trick that makes the most of modern longboards. The move was invented by Robby Naish at age 13, and consists of turning your longboard onto it’s leeward edge and sailing in a forward motion. Once the board has successfully been flipped on edge, your feet are placed on top of the windward rail, and away you sail. Be sure to check out the 5 steps in the article to learn this retro move. Your Kona isn’t just for light-wind cruising!

Never knew that, but it's an intense move never the less.
man, that brings back memories from my childhood.. Best yet was the clue first, reverse rail ride.
GREAT!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT ON MY NEWEST PURCHASE - THE AHD ELIMINATOR III LONG BOARD!!! THANK YOU FOR THE REMINDER AND A BLAST FROM THE PAST!!!
Sorry guys, but if I may: more on the rail.
These are more advanced. The tips in this tutorial are great for the forward though !
Good fun on modern or older boards.

Woops, one more note: this is not lightwind freestyle.
The railride is easier to do and to learn in stronger winds, and more difficult in lighter winds (no balance then).
I can perform pretty all of my rails in up to 20 knots with a 6m sail.
Cheers again.
