What You'll Learn First

UPHAULING AND BASIC POSITION
1) Maneuver the board so that it is positioned perpendicular to the wind.

2) Climb on with your hands and knees. Place a foot on each side of the mast base.

3) Grab the uphaul rope. Bend your knees, lean back and use your legs to lift the sail.

4) As the sail rises, pull the uphaul rope hand over hand to free the sail from the water.

5) Keep your arms straight and your knees bent. Note the sail is powerless, like a flag.
180-DEGREE TURN
1) Start with straight arms and bent knees. Be sure to keep your butt in for good posture.

2) As you lean the sail toward the back of the board, the nose will begin to turn into the wind.

3) When the nose is pointed directly where the wind is coming from, slowly walk your feet around the front of the mast.

4) Continue leaning the sail as you walk your feet around the mast.

5) When the board’s nose is pointed in the opposite direction, stop moving your feet and leaning the sail.
GETTING UNDER WAY
1) Find your front arm (the one closest to the front of the board) and look forward.

2) Stay on the centerline and prepare to step behind the mast.

3) Once your feet are behind the mast, use your front hand to draw the mast upright, so it stands tall like a mast on a sailboat.

4) Gently grab the boom with your back hand, shoulder width from your front one.

5) Gently pull in with your back hand to begin moving, keeping the mast upright and tall to sail straight.
