The Lord of the Wind Showdown 2012

On a lucky Friday 13th, the Lord of the Wind delivered just that - Wind, wind, and more wind! The race committee gathered competitors on the beach early to announce that the day would include slalom and  big air competition for windsurfers and kite boarders in all divisions. Kiters headed out first in a solid northerly breeze, and the action was on, with windsurfers and kite boarders switching back and forth between heat as they rounded the 7-buoy downwind slalom course. The fast course had pro kiters and windsurfers finishing heats in less than five-minutes making for incredibly fast-paced action for our spectators on the beach. With the top three kiteboard racers in the world on hand, competition was fierce, but the local crew put on a good show with Mac Skaggs and Jake Kinney impressing everyone with their racing chops. After running a few rounds of slalom, the race directors moved to the EpicSessions.tv Jump-Off, where competitors strapped on iPhone 4’s specially equipped with an advanced motion tracking device that tracked their jumps within a three millimeter measurement. Saturday looks to bring even more wind, and more competition!

Kiteboarding, Windsurfing and SUP highlighted in “Sand Masters” 20th Episode.
