Lost In Hatteras: Proud to be of Irish Descent

I’ve never really found a good reason to be upset about my descent (except the whole fair skin thing), but on many occasions, I’m exceptionally pleased to be composed of Irish/Scottish bloodlines. For example, I considered today to be a beautiful day to go windsurfing. No doubt, windsurfers (especially from the East Coast) can make the most of any crappy day, but today, well, I’ll let you judge for yourself:

Windy? Check. Cold?  Check.

Puking rain? Check.

Yes, yes. Twas the kind of weather only the Irish could love! Twas perfectly fine coastal weather!

One more thing before I let you go. As you may know, Chile is a pretty epic place to go windsurfing. It’s so good, even the pros leave Maui to go there to train on port tack. There is a small Chilean town named Matanzas that hosts the most international sailors, including Klaas Voget, Victor Fernandez, and Robby and David Swift. All happened to be in Chile during the earthquake. They’ve sent in some pretty shocking stories and photos, and David has set up a charity donation account that goes directly to the town of Matanzas to aid in their recovery. Let’s all get together, as part of a big international windsurfing community, and help out this small town that has been nothing but a kind and gracious host to the windsurfing world! Any small amount you can give will go a very long way toward getting the people of Matanzas back on their feet.

David’s “Just Giving” donation page can be found here:

Or, if you prefer a more general route to helping all of Chile, the Red Cross is accepting donations here:

    Hi Andy!

    How the photos turned out?

    Cheers,

PS. One of your forward loops got on my camcorder. One is better than none. I will share it with you soon.

Sorry for the link: manually remove final ">" or just click http://fraczak.dyndns.org/wojtek/loop.mpeg instead.

Hey Wojtek, thanks for the notes! It was fun sailing with you the other day! I just finished making a little movie, so I'll post it up here soon. I'd love to check out your clip, too, but it's not opening on my browser. Anyway, I'm glad you got some wind- at least it faded back from the 50 mph gusts from earlier that day, eh?? Hope to see you again soon.
