2010 Windsurfing Board Tests: High Wind Boards

Windsurfing introduced something new to its windsurf board tests this year — superlatives. Yup. We’re coming out and saying it: These windsurfing boards do this best. We’re picking the winner and a few runners-up from every category and telling you straight-up. Here, we’ve gathered the best do-it-all windsurf boards from our High Wind Board Test.
 

Best Do-It-All Windsurf Boards:

Starboard Quad 86 Windsurf Board

Curiosity abounded about the Starboard Quad 86 windsurfing board as we checked it out on the beach. It had a wave-friendly fin and foot-strap setup, but a hull shape that bore at least a slight resemblance to a new-school slalom board. Would it do anything right? Well, it did everything right. Thommen MWX92 Windsurf Board

The Thommen MWX92 windsurfing board came to us with very little indication of what it was built for (although the MW stands for “Maui Wave”). But an explanation wasn’t needed — we quickly found the Thommen to be a standout in all categories, especially for heavyweights. It was fast, friendly and tons of fun.
