Brian, you're a little old to be competing at the ProKids event. How come you're here?
Because I'm come to learn from the youngsters, and to promote the event - the vision of the ProKids is the future of the sport. Reproduction is good! If our sport wants to live forever, we gotta reproduce and create new action. I got three kids and another one on the way!
What do you think of the event so far?
Yeah, I'm very stoked. The good thing about the event so far - this is the catalyst for young sailors all around the world. You see the influence all over. It's good to see Kiri performing, and it's good that he's part of the action - it's very good for the event.
Was it nice to see your old friend Andy Brandt?
Yeah, he's done so much for the sport especially in the USA - getting people motivated and motivated in the sport is amazing. And he brought back great memories of what we used to do with the Superlight. Oh, Action! [Looking at the little kid sailing by]
Who has been most impressive of the sailors?
Cesar with his classical freestyle is very amazing - I say that about him because I believe - when you tink about the US and Florida, and want to get the youngsters into classic freestyle- that's all you need. The beginning of a potential.
So I hear the local boys have started calling you “Kiri Sr” - (instead of calling Kiri “Brian Jr.”) - you OK with that? This is my pitch on the story - until Kiri wins the world title, he's still Brian Jr! [laughs] He always says he's better than me - i asked him one question - did he ever win an event? When he wins the World Championship, then he can call me up!
What are you reading right now? WindSurfing! Is that statistics true? That 59 percent of the readers are long board lovers? That's great.
