WS: Favorite people to windsurf with?

Kai: Robby Naish, my Mom and Dad and Ridge, my little brother. I also like to sail with Conner and Jake.

WS: How did you get started Windsurfing?

Kai: My dad started me when I was 6, and I did the windsurfing camps with Hugh and Linda Stott(Windsurfing Unlimited) when I was 8.

WS: Was windsurfing as easy as you expected?

Kai: Umm no, it was a little bit harder. It takes lots of practice.

WS: When you sailed in the Molokai Challenge, did you make it the entire way without any help? Was it tough?

Kai: Yes I sailed the whole way, but my dad showed me where the finish line was. It was fun, at the end it was tough because it was blowing 40 Knots. I had to sail straight down wind and I was leaning back so far my butt was touching the tail of my board. At the finish line I went through the channel, then I had to sail up wind to the beach.

WS: Now that your're sailing Ho'okipa, does it scare you at all? Have you ever been worked by a wave there? Do waves hold you under water for a while when you only weigh 65 pounds?

Kai: At the start it is a little hairy, but then once I am out there it is a piece of cake. I have been worked by the waves there, but it's not so bad at all. The waves hold me under for a long time, but I stay calm and roll up into a ball so that my equipment doesn't hurt me, then when I feel that the wave has gone by I swim up to the surface and get my rig and go back out.

WS: Who do you like to watch Windsurf the most?

Kai: Robby Naish.

WS: What's the latest move you're working on?

Kai: A back loop and front loop and a Vulcan.

WS: What's your favorite part of windsurfing?

Kai: Catching big air and wave riding on some monster waves.

WS: Any other stuff I should know feel free to add here. Thanks for the help Kai. Hope to windsurf with you someday!

Kai: “Thanks Eddy for including me in your magazine, I hope to windsurf with you someday too.”

WindSurfing's closing note: Kai surfs (short board and long boards), paddle boards, he Kite surfs, tow surfs, foil boards and likes to do any sports having to do with the water. According to his dad, Kai is also very helpful with his little brother, Ridge.
