We went to the beach right in front of our house the wind was
pretty off shore and gusty but we were ready. Seth and I went out
on 5.7 and 5.8 respectively and Nik and Xavier used their
5.3s. For me it was just enough to plod out through the
waves and get up and riding. The biggest sets were barely head high
but they were very smooth and being a beach break they had some
power to them so it made for a great session. The water was not
that cold which was a relief, not much sun either so it
wasnt to great for shooting photos but it was some great
sailing and felt good to be in the water. After a couple of hours
the wind started to back off a bit so we decided to break for lunch
and have a look at some of the other spots to see if anything had
more promise. It turned out that out in front was looking best so
we hung out at the house for a while until the wind came back.
Since it stayed light till nearly 9:30pm we could stay out till
pretty late. In the afternoon the sun came out and the wind came
back up so we went for the second session. This turned out to be
better for wind and there were even a few jumps to be had, but
Darrell finally had the chance to get some good-looking photos. The
wind finally started to die of in the evening but with the dropping
tide the waves came up a bit more. Further up the beach from where
we were sailing there was a small point break so after packing up
the windsurfing gear Seth and I went out for a surf. It
wasnt quite head high but after about ten fun waves we were
both completely exhausted from the days water time so we called it
a day and walked the 5 minutes back to the house. Just in time for
a lovely little dinner that Laura and Nik threw together for the
crew. A couple of brews out by the Barbie watching the sun set an
end to an excellent day, Taz finally coming through!
I was pretty amped to go for a surf the next morning but when I
woke up and saw that it was about the same as last night and felt
how tired I was I decided an extra hour of sleep would be good.
Second awaking I dragged Seth out of bed had some cereal and walked
down to the beach for a surf, it was about the same as last night
for about half an hour but then dropped right off. So we headed
back to the house for second breakfast. The rest of the crew had
made plans already to head down to the Lighthouse to check the
conditions, Kai reckoned it would be better there today. So after
breakfast we packed a lunch and we were off.
At the lighthouse we had to park the van with all the gear about
600meters from the water, however the Outback would drive right
down on the beach of course as far as the rental car company is
concerned we didnt actually drive on the beach. The wind was
still light but the waves were definitely bigger here. While we
waited Nik, Kai, Seth and I went out for a surf. Seth and I caught
one wave and then were caught inside for two sets and since the
wind felt like it was building we decided to come back in. Nik and
Kai caught a few more nice waves before they came in. The wind was
a bit stronger so we headed back to the van and rigged up.
